Elizabeth Johnson, left, Gina Peppard and other members of the Zonta Club of Greater East Texas recently spent several hours volunteering at Heartisans Marketplace in downtown Longview.

Organization name: Zonta Club of Greater East Texas

Members of our organization volunteer with: Heartisans Marketplace in downtown Longview.

We have volunteered there since: Club members have volunteered at Heartisans Marketplace since 2016.

Our duties include: Participating in the manufacturing process, inventory control and retail support.

The people who benefit from this are: Profits generated from product sales provide funding for Heartisans’ customized job-training program for unemployed/underemployed women living in the local community.

We volunteer there because: Zonta Club of Greater East Texas members volunteer there because Heartisans’ mission statement aligns with those of Zonta International.

We encourage other people to volunteer because: We encourage people to volunteer at Heartisans Marketplace because their efforts provide direct support of a community resource that is changing women’s lives.

We also volunteer at: Club members support a variety of other community projects including Rahab’s Retreat, the Literacy Council, Prom Boutique and the Golden Z Club at Kilgore College.

This organization’s history: The Zonta Club of Greater East Texas was chartered on Sept. 13, 2007. Zonta International was formed in 1919. From the beginning, Zonta has been committed to empowering women.

Upcoming activities: On Nov. 8, Zonta will celebrate it’s 99th Birthday. With the upcoming holiday season, members of the Zonta Club of Greater East Texas will be increasing their volunteer activities at Heartisans Marketplace.
