Carthage High School seniors Wednesday continued the decades-old senior tradition of swimming across a pond on campus.
The tradition dates back to the 1980s. Although the first swim wasn’t sanctioned by the school, it’s turned into an annual tradition of coordinated costumes and giant flotation devices — and for this year, at least one kayak. This year’s event also had a pre-swim water balloon fight in the parking lot.
After the seniors swam across the pond in small groups, all the swimmers jumped in together to swim back across the pond.
Carthage High School has set its graduation ceremony at 8 p.m. Friday at Bulldog Stadium.
