A homeless Longview man remained jailed this morning awaiting arraignment on arson charges after a large warehouse blaze in Longview. No injuries were reported, but the structure was a total loss, according to the Longview Fire Department.
Donnie Ross Mayo, 53, is being charged with arson, resisting arrest and interfering with public duties in connection with the Tuesday evening blaze.
Longview Fire Marshal Johnny Zachary said the LFD responded to the fire at about 8:30 p.m. on the 300 block of Cherokee Street, but the building was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.
"It was an old warehouse, and crews were on a defensive attack upon arrival," Zachary said.
Mayo was still there when firefighters arrived.
Parts of the building were still ablaze an hour later. Zachary said firefighters would have to perform an extensive overhaul of the structure to ensure the fire was completely out.
