After a year long investigation, Wood County officials took down three illegal gambling sites at the same time last Thursday night.
Several undercover agents and deputies raided gambling opeations on Highway 154, Highway 17 and Farm-to-Market Road 515.
Lucky Strike in Winnsboro, The Gate in Quitman, and Debbie's Dreams in Alba were all shut down.
"We got like 112 machines all together out of the three places," Wood County Sheriff Bill Wansley said. "I could not believe they had that many machines in that building. We had people go in and they were paying out in cash money. And, that makes it illegal."
Wansley said illegal gambling is a growing problem in Wood County.
"It has been recently and that's what we're trying to do is eliminate that," he said. "Gambling is easy money. We've seized thousands of dollars from these three locations."
The Wood County Sheriff's Office arrested one of the managers of The Gate in Quitman for illegal possession of a firearm. She has since bonded out of jail.
Sheriff Wansley said whatever illegal activity it may be, it won't be tolerated.
"If they're going to come to Wood County and do this, well, this is what's going to happen," he said.
The sheriff's department will likely make more arrests in this investigation.
