Apr. 29 - Conner Cemetery day will start on Sunday, April 29 at 11 a.m. with the business meeting followed by a choice between a covered dish lunch and hamburgers. The cemetery is located in Beckville off Hwy 149. The meeting is always the last Sunday in April.

Apr. 30 - The Panola County Conservatives will host a meet the candidates at the Church of Christ in Wildwood, 136 CR 490, Carthage, Texas on Monday, April 30, at 6:30 PM. We have invited Republican Candidates on the ballot for the Primary election of May 29, those include candidates for local Panola County Offices, State Broad of Education, 123th Judicial Judge, and 6th Court of Appeals.

Apr. 30 – The Carthage High School All Sports Banquet has been moved to May 14.

Apr. 30 - The last day to register to vote is April 30 for the 2012 Primary Election on May 29.

Apr. 30. – The American Cancer Society is urging businesses to decorate their store front with lots of purple to support the American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life.

May 1 – Dr. Steve Murdock will be the guest lecturer at a lunchbox lecture at 12 p.m. at the M.P. Baker Library in the Murphy-Payne Community Room. Dr. Murdock will speak on demographic trends and how it affects education and socioeconomic conditions in the community. The lunchbox lecture is free and open to the community.

May 3 – Carthage ISD will have a Town Hall Meeting for Bond Election Presentations by Dr. Glenn Hambrick, Superintendent at 7 p.m. at the Antioch Church.

May 4 – The 2012 Relay for Life of Panola County will be held from 7 p.m. May 4th to 7 a.m. on May 5th. For more information, contact Cassie Miller at 903-754-7464 or go to http://relayforlife.org/panolacotx.

May 5 – District Shotgun Sports Games

May 5 – The Bethlehem Cemetery Association in the Snap Community will be having its 29th Annual Cemetery Day. Visiting at the cemetery will be at 10 a.m., and the business meeting at Cedar Grove Baptist Church will be held at 11 a.m. This will be followed by a covered dish lunch. May 5- The Second Annual Clayton LaGrone Memorial Fish Fry will be held at the Charles and Clara LaGrone Family Life Center on CR 445. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and you may purchase a catfish plate with a donation and enjoy music and fellowship in the center.

May 6 - 13 - The Carthage Music Club invites the community to share in celebrating the 89th annual observance of National Music Week May 6 through 13, 2012. The Carthage Music Club is an affiliate of the National Federation of Music Clubs. The theme this year will be "Music...Sounds that Inspire."

May 6- The Deadwood Cemetery Association Corporation will be holding its annual May Day gathering at the First United Methodist Church of Deadwood. Ronnie LaGrone will be the speaker.

May 6 – The Antioch Cemetery Association will be holding its annual meeting at 11 a.m. at the corner of CR 405 and CR 407. For more information, contact June Abernathy at 903-693-5325.

May 11 & 12 - The Calvary Abundant Life Tabernacle in Logansport is gearing up for the rummage sale of sales in May. We'll be starting the sale at 9 a.m. - venders are encouraged to be out at 8:00 getting set up. Call 318-609-4751 for more information.

May 14 – The Carthage High School Varsity All Sports Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the CHS Commons Area. Tickets are $12 and are on sale at the CHS Field House office between 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. through Wednesday, May 9. You must have a ticket to attend and tickets will not be sold at the door.

May 17 – The Panola Co. PRCA Rodeo BBQ Sale will be held on the Carthage Square from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The PRCA Rodeo Parade will be at the Square at 6 p.m. For more information, contact Sandi Pinkston at 903-241-2419.

May 18-19 – The Panola County Cattleman's Assoc. Annual PRCA Rodeo will be held at the Hwy 79N Rodeo Arena. For more information, contact Sandi Pinkston at 903-241-2419.

May 19 – Doris Brown McKelvey will be signing her book "Time Love Commitment: A Relationship with Jesus" at the Sammy Brown Library from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The book will be on sale for $8.

May 19 - A benefit concert and auction will be held at Springs of Living Water, on FM 1971 @ FM 999, to help Richard and Peggy Chappell who recently lost everything to a house fire in their home on Lake Murvaul. Donations can also be taken or sent to Springs of Living Water Church, 4032 FM 1971, Timpson, TX 75975, or by contacting Pastor Leroy Bowley at 936-254-3504. Office hours at the Drop Off location are 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Items can be picked up as well by calling Linda Bowley at 903-690-0300 (office) or 903-692-2101 (cell).

May 22 – The Book Forum will meet Tuesday, May 22.

June 11 – 15 – Texas 4-H Roundup

June 18-22 – The Jason McCoy "Life Above the Rim Basketball Camp" will be held at the Marshall High School gym from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp will cost $125 and is open to boys and girls ages 9-17. There will be professional instructors, free t-shirts and wristbands, and lunch will be served each day.
