KILGORE - The East Texas Pump Jacks took their first Texas Collegiate League championship with a 7-4 victory tonight over the Victoria Generals.
The come-from-behind win came in game 3 of a three-game series.
The Pump Jacks fell behind 3-0 by the end of the second, but began scoring in the fourth, making it 3-2. They took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four to make it 6-3.
The Generals scored one more in the seventh, but the Pump Jacks made it 7-4 in the eighth. Hallsville's Jason Jester was on the mound in the ninth to slam the door.
The Generals had an opportunity Tuesday to clinch the TCL title after a 5-3 win Monday in game one at Victoria, but fell to 1-7 at Driller Park this season with a game two 7-4 loss. That set up the deciding game three, also at Driller and also decided by a score of 7-4.
It is the Pump Jacks' first-ever TCL championship. The Generals were league champions in 2010.
"This is for Kilgore," said head coach Ben Taylor after the game.
