A fire at Magnolia Ridge Apartments caused structural and smoke damage to several units Sunday.
Longview firefighters were called to 1507 N. Eastman Road about 3:15 p.m. to extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported.
Longview District 1 Battalion Chief Buddy Anderson said the fire's origin is under investigation, but officials said it may have started in the kitchen.
Resident Nicholas Yeakley, 25, who near the upstairs apartment that caught fire, said he and his brother were heading home about 3 p.m., when they smelled smoke and realized the structure was burning.
"We were walking up the stairs and smelled smoke. You could see smoke coming out of the roof, and that's when we called 911 and warned our neighbors to get out," Yeakley said.
According to Anderson, no one was at home at the time the apartment caught fire.
"The apartment obtained substantial damage to the interior, and I don't know how many others will be displaced because of smoke damage," Anderson said.
The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes. No firefighters were injured, Anderson said.
