The Brookshire Brothers grocery store in Henderson will close at the end of December, said Judy Sewell, executive director of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce.
The store has been on Van Buren Street since 1996, but operated in the town at a different location prior to that, Sewell said.
It has 48 employees, including full-time and part-time. They will be offered the opportunity to transfer to other Brookshire stores throughout East Texas, Sewell said.
"It's convenient having a grocery store in the downtown area," Sewell said. "However, their lease was up and they determined it wasn't in the company's best interest to continue to operate a store here."
The closing will leave Henderson with three major grocery outlets: Bobby's, Kroger and the Walmart Super Center.
