Longview's downtown salute to the arts and entertainment kicks off this weekend for a three-day run about a month earlier than normal.
To set the stages and get the streets and alleys ready, city officials said several downtown streets will be temporarily closed for AlleyFest beginning today.
Activities during AlleyFest include Alley Art, Alley Run, Kids Fest, Music Fest, and Food Fest.
The event has traditionally been held the first full weekend in June, but blazing summer temperatures prompted organizers to move the event up a few weeks. Plus, with this being Mother's Day weekend, they hope visitors will take advantage of the unique selection of arts and crafts to find something special for their mothers.
Organizers said volunteers are still needed to help with a variety of activities throughout the weekend. For more information about the event, contact (903) 237-4000 or visit www.AlleyFest.org.
