Two-Minute Drill: Punt, Pass & Kick contest set Oct. 20, more

<strong>ANNUAL PP&K CONTEST OCT. 20</strong>: The Longview Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual Punt, Pass & Kick contest beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Longview High School practice soccer field (beside the tennis courts).

The event is open to boys and girls ages 6-15 (as of Dec. 31, 2012). A copy of the participant's birth certificate must be submitted at the time of registration either in the PARD office or on site the morning of the contest.

No football shoes, cleats or turf shoes will be permitted (only soft-soled sneakers). Each participant will have one punt, one pass and one kick, and scores are determined on distance and accuracy for the three events with winners determined by the highest cumulative score.

Boys and girls compete separately in local competitions, with the top finisher in each of the five age groups (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15) advancing to a sectional competition will will take place at the same location at noon that day.

The top four finishers in each boys' and girls' age groups from the pool of sectional competition will advance to the Team Championship event staged at halftime of a Dallas Cowboys game. The top four scorers in each of those age groups from the pool of Team champions will advance to the National Finals at an NFL playoff game.

<strong>CHRISTIAN HERITAGE SHUTS OUT ETCS IN SOCCER</strong>: Brad Upchurch scored three goals for his fifth straight hat trick in district play as the Christian Heritage Sentinels shut out East Texas Christian 8-0 on Friday.

Ashton Jones added two goals and an assist, while Bradley Jones had one goal and one assist. Also scoring goals were Chris Arce and Ty Wall. Zach Chitwood had two assists.

Goalkeepers Daniel McKinley and Alex Ozment combined for six saves in the shutout. Defensive standouts were Alex Parker and Daniel Farrell, along with midfielder Colin Williams.

CHS moves to 8-1-2 on the season and to 5-0 in district play. The Sentinels visit East Texas Christian Academy of Tyler on Friday.

<strong>BASKETBALL REGISTRATION UNDER WAY</strong>: Registration for the Longview Parks and Recreation Department's Youth Open Basketball and Youth Church Basketball are under way.

For Youth Open Basketball, regular registration will continue through Nov. 1. Full payment is $65 (payment plan $70).

For Youth Church Basketball, early registration ($265) continues through Oct. 12 and regular registration ($295) runs from Oct. 15-Nov. 16.

Late registration ($315) runs from Nov. 19-Dec. 3.

This program is for all boys and girls ages 6-18 (as of Sept. 1, 2012). Divisions are 8-under, 10-under, 12-under, 14-under, 16-under and 18-under. The season will begin on Jan. 5.

<strong>CENTERS GOLF TOURNEY MONDAY</strong>: The Larry Centers and Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Rusk County/Kilgore unit is set for Monday at Wood Hollow Golf Club in Longview.
