John Tyler, Hughes Springs move up in weekly high school football poll

John Tyler and Hughes Springs moved up one spot Monday with the release of the weekly Associated Press high school football poll.

John Tyler jumped from third to second in the Class 4A poll, and Hughes Springs moved from 10th to ninth in Class 2A.

The remaining ranked East Texas teams stayed put, with Kilgore holding down the No. 4 spot in 3A, New Boston remaining at No. 5 in 2A and Joaquin still at No. 5 and Alto at No. 8 in Class A.

Whitehouse in 4A, Gilmer in 3A, Tatum and Troup in 2A and Timpson in Class A, all got votes this week.

The five top spots all remained unchanged, with Katy on top in 5A, Pearland Dawson in 4A, Navasota in 3A, Refugio in 2A and Munday in 1A.
