Baylor University's Institute for Family Business has chosen Sabine Pipe of Kilgore as its 2012 Family Values Award recipient in the annual Texas Family Business of the Year Awards program.

Sabine Pipe's recognition pays tribute to a company that has shown the greatest commitment to family values by nurturing healthy relationships and stability over successive generations.

The award honors Sabine Pipe for achieving growth and innovation, and for earning the reputation of conducting business in an upright and ethical manner.

Sabine Pipe Co. began in 1945, when J.E. Adamson left his 13-year employer, American Supply Co., and opened Sabine Machine & Supply to serve the East Texas oilfields.

J.E Adamson's son, Bill Adamson, became president of Sabine in 1990, and third-generation member Will Adamson ascended to the position in 2004.

Baylor's nomination for the honor said Bill Adamson brought structure and focus to the company while Will Adamson moved the company forward in the rapidly changing oil and gas industry by growing and expanding into new markets.

Judges from the Baylor Institute of Family Business said they were impressed with the quality of family participation, the relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation and the seamless manner with which the second and third generations have moved into the future.

They commented on how Sabine Pipe has moved from being a regional East Texas oil field service company to expanding throughout the United States, with sales offices in Los Angeles, Denver, Oklahoma City and Midland. The company also stores pipe in California, Utah, Oklahoma, Houston, Midland and Kilgore.

"Each year we receive an impressive number of nominations for these awards that honor Texas-based family businesses," says program Director Dawn Maitz. "We were thoroughly impressed at the vision that the generations of Adamsons have had and how they have grown during up and down cycles of their industry."

"We are humbled by this honor, and we appreciate what the Baylor Institute for Family Business is doing for family businesses like ours," said President Will Adamson. "This award recognizes that we have a high performing team, and our growth is a direct result of the relationships we have developed over the years."

Members of the Adamson family will travel to Waco in November to receive their award and participate in a Family Business Forum on the Baylor campus.
