Stanford: Why won't Dan Patrick debate Thomas Ratliff on CSCOPE?

Aug. 5, 2013 at 11:02 a.m.

State Sen. Dan Patrick, who is running for lieutenant governor, has made much of his efforts to end use of the CSCOPE curriculum tool in Texas classrooms, writes Jason Stanford. And Patrick issued a challenge to anyone who disagrees that he will meet them for a debate. But he won't debate Thomas Ratliff.

"He accepted Patrick's challenge," Stanford writes of Ratliff. "The response thus far from the senator has been mute. Despite repeatedly reminding Sen. Patrick about his debate challenge, Ratliff hasn't heard a word."

Says Ratliff: "If he can't defend or debate on education, a committee he chairs in the Senate, and be more versed than a member of the State Board of Education, how does he expect to handle a statewide televised debate for lieutenant governor?"
