Area attorney Kristen Ishihara on Monday announced her candidacy for the District 4 seat on the Longview City Council.

The current District 4 councilman Wayne Frost will have served his maximum three terms and will be ineligible to run for re-election in May.

Ishihara is a co-founder and board president of the Longview Dog Park and has served as a member of the city's Parks & Recreation Committee, as chairwoman for the Animal Shelter Advisory committee, and is a member of the Junior League of Longview, Zonta of Longview and a member of the Board of Directors for East Texas CASA, according to a press release announcing her candidacy.

"We have truly enjoyed becoming a part of the community here and getting to know so many wonderful people who call Longview home," Ishihara said in the statement. "We are a fortunate community in that so many Longview residents are actively involved in making our town great, and I am running for City Council to do my part in establishing Longview as the best place to live and work for generations to come."

Council seats for District 3, currently held by Councilwoman Kasha Williams, and District 4 will be voted on in May.

The window to officially file to run for office opens around February.
