East Texas players represent on APSE Class 1A all-state football team

Anson teammates Jalen Garza and Lance Norman earned top honors, and East Texas placed a total of 16 players on the first team, second team or honorable mention list with the release of the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class A All-State High School Football Team.

Voting was conducted by APSE members based on regular season performances.

Garza was named the offensive player of the year after completing 112 of 198 passes for 1,963 yards with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions and rushing for 1,325 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Norman, a defensive lineman, racked up 117 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 22 sacks, three forced fumbles and five blocked kicks.

East Texas players earning first team honors included San Augustine receiver Dez Randle (51 catches, 1,079 yards, 19 TDs), Cayuga running back Keshawn Jackson (198 carries, 1,879 yards, 27 TDs) and Carlisle kicker Angel Garza (30-33 PATs, 7-8 field goals, 14 touchbacks).

Second team selections from East Texas were Alto kicker Nicolas Leon, Overton offensive lineman Seth Garrett, Tenaha offensive lineman Denzelle Williams and Mount Enterprise punter Ty Ham.

Honorable mention picks from East Texas were San Augustine quarterback Jamikel Roberts, Tenaha running back Chavis Gregory, Mount Enterprise running back Justin Johnson, Overton kicker Michael Phillips, Alto defensive lineman Tyarius Hackett, Carlisle linebacker Gustavo Martinez, Alto lnebacker Logan Smith, Carlisle defensive back Bryce McGowan and Carlisle's Garza at punter.

The 2013 Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 1A all-state high school football team, released Sunday. Voting based on regular-season performance. Players are listed in alphabetical order at each position.
