ET Basketball: LeTourneau men fall on road to Louisiana College, more

LOUISIANA COLLEGE 78, LETOURNEAU 66: PINEVILLE, La. – Anthony Gaines Jr. shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the field to lead Louisiana College to a 78-66 win over LeTourneau on Saturday.

Gaines finished with a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds for Louisiana College (6-10, 6-8). Kevin Cottonham added 12 points and Romanaski Williams chipped in 12 points off the bench.

Ladria Brown drained a three-pointer to pull within a point late in the first half but Louisiana College responded with two long balls of their own to take 37-31 lead into halftime.

Louisiana College outscored LeTourneau (9-12, 8-7), 41-35, in the second half in the win and finished with 48 percent shooting overall.

Brown led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points. Justin Jones posted a 14-point, 17-rebound double-double in the loss for the Yellow Jackets, who host UT Tyler on Thursday.


BLINN 58, KILGORE COLLEGE 47: KILGORE – No. 10 Blinn jumped out quick on Kilgore College in a 58-47 win to pull to 23-1 on the year at Masters Gymnasium.

Blinn opened the contest on a 12-0 run and never trailed in the Region XIV conference. Kilgore College (9-7 overall) sits at 4-4 in conference action while Blinn boasts a 9-1 record.

Kilgore College whittled the Blinn lead down to nine points late in the first half before the Lady Buccaneers posted a 15-4 run into the second half to push the lead back to 20 points. Blinn led 31-16 at halftime.

Fatima Adams posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double for Blinn to pace three plays with double digit points. Jazzmin Parker led with 14 points while Audrissa Parker chipped in 13.

Kilgore College missed their first 12 shots in the contest, draining their first bucket with 11:20 remaining in the opening half, to lead to 21 percent shooting in the opening half. The Lady Rangers finished with 28 percent shooting overall.

Amanda Lawson led Kilgore College with 15 points off the bench. Gabrielle Jackson finished with 10 points and four assists. Kierra Phipps pulled down 11 boards for the Lady Rangers.

Both Kilgore teams host Tyler Junior College on Wednesday. The Lady Rangers tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men following at 7:30 p.m.

LOUISIANA COLLEGE 86, LETOURNEAU 56: PINEVILLE, La. – Turnovers plagued LeTourneau down the stretch in a 86-56 loss to Louisiana College.

LeTourneau trailed by four midway through the opening half before posting only six points in the final ten minutes to give Louisiana College a 41-22 lead heading in to the break.

Andrea Ashley had a game-high 20 points for LeTourneau (7-14, 4-11). Jessica Manas finished with nine points while Shi'Rell Williams added seven points and nine rebounds off the LeTourneau bench.

<strong>HIGH SCHOOL</strong>


HEATH FULTON 52, TRINITY 51: Connor Cleveland posted a game-high 21 points as Heath Fulton held off a Trinity fourth-quarter comeback for a 52-51 win on Saturday.

Trinity held a five-point lead after the first quarter but was outscored by Heath Fulton 18-10 in the second stanza. Trinity posted 21 points in the fourth quarter and Joe Caruso narrowly missed a buzzer-beating game winner for the Titans, who sit at 11-3 on the season and 3-2 in TAPPS 3-A action.

Forrest Houston led a trio of Titans in double digits with 17 points. Nathan Burke added 11 points while Bret Lacy had 10 points and seven rebounds. Caruso finished with six points and four assists.

Brendon Williams added 15 points for Heath Fulton.

Trinity will host Longview Christian School at 7:30 on Friday for senior night.
