Nine Texas Department of Transportation employees from East Texas have been sent to West Texas to help clear roadways after record snowfall this week.
"We had eight Atlanta District employees who have been trained in operating snow plows and spreaders and one mechanic that will be helping our fellow workers in the Lubbock and Amarillo Districts get the snow-packed roadways cleared for motorists," said Brad Haugh, TxDOT maintenance administrator in Atlanta.
Several highways in the Texas panhandle were closed Monday after as much as 20 inches of snow blanketed the area.
Joined by employees from other TxDOT districts, crews will be working around the clock to clear all the roadways.
