Navarro College is disputing claims from Kilgore College that Navarro basketball players were pepper sprayed because they were unruly and threatening college police officers.
The dispute arises from allegations made after a game Saturday in Kilgore, in which Kilgore College defeated Navarro 88-78. A spokesman for Kilgore College has said the players were pepper sprayed after threatening a college police officer who was trying to restrain them as emotions rose in the gymnasium.
But Navarro College district President Richard Sanchez denies his players were unruly. And Navarro Athletic Director Roark Montgomery says police were too aggressive in the incident, in which all 15 players and three coaches suffered effects of pepper spray.
Kilgore spokesman Chris Craddock said today the officers remain on the job and the investigation continues. On Monday, he said criminal charges against players or fans involved were being considered.
