Here's a quick look at events and work planned by Texas Department of Transportation around Northeast Texas this week, Jan. 20-Jan. 26:
The weather may have cleared and the temperatures are gradually warming, but highway work associated with last week's freezing rain still remains.
While some Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews are scheduled to return to normal maintenance operations next week, others will be sweeping bridges and patching potholes that formed in the storm's freeze-thaw cycle.
"We sanded a lot of bridges and overpasses last week," said TxDOT spokesman Larry Krantz. "Now we have to get that material swept up off the side of the road. And, of course, there was roadway damage that needs our attention as well."
Maintenance sections will have sweeper trucks, rotary brooms and patch trucks operating in the coming days and weeks to finish cleaning up after the storm.
Those slow-moving operations occasionally slow traffic for a few moments, Krantz said, adding that he hoped motorists would be patient with the operation.
"The safety of the traveling public comes first," Krantz said. "Once the storm is over, all we is ask is for the public return the favor while we finish cleaning up."
TxDOT maintenance crews this week are scheduled to make base and pavement repairs on Texas 42 between FM 2206 south of White Oak and Interstate 20.
Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress.
TxDOT maintenance crews this week are scheduled to make base and pavement repairs on Texas 135 between Overton and FM 918.
A second crew is scheduled to begin several weeks of similar work on FM 782 northeast of Henderson between FM 1716 in Oak Hill and Texas 149 near the Gregg County Line.
Daytime lane closures will be in effect in each location while the work is in progress, and flaggers and pilot vehicles will control traffic.
Maintenance crews are scheduled to resume base and pavement repairs on FM 1801 and edge repairs on FM 1643 between FM 515 west of Winnsboro and Texas 37 north of Quitman.
Elsewhere in Wood County, TxDOT contractors are at work making base and pavement repairs on Texas 182 between US 69 in Alba and Texas 154 west of Quitman, and are scheduled to move on Monday, January 28 to perform several days of the same work on FM 1804 (Hoard Road).
The work is being done in preparation for a seal coat application next summer.
