Pump Jacks roll to 7-3 win over Cane Cutters

KILGORE - Nick Rossetta pitched seven strong innings for his fifth win of the year, and Mitch Meyer and Connor Huesers combined for three hits and five RBIs as the East Texas Pump Jacks earned a 7-3 Texas Collegiate League win over the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Friday at Driller Park.
Rossetta (5-1) struck out four, walked three and gave up three runs on four hits. He pitched the top of the seventh and left with the game tied at 3-3, but the Pump Jacks pushed across four runs in the bottom of the frame to make him a winner. Don Sullivan and Kenny Oakley both pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Meyer finished the night 1-for-3 with three RBIs, and Huesers added two this and a pair of RBIs.
The Pump Jacks got a run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Meyer and added one in the third on Meyer's RBI single, but the Cane Cutters took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh when they scored on a pair of passed balls.
Mark Mathias got East Texas' four-run seventh started by reaching on an error and later scoring on an error following a sacrifice bunt by Brett McAfee. Meyer drove in another run with a groundout, and Huesers delivered a two-run double later in the inning for a 6-3 lead.
East Texas tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double by Nate Esposito.
The Pump Jacks will host the Victoria Generals tonight and Sunday at 7:05 p.m. After an off night on Monday, East Texas will host the Brazos Valley Bombers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
