Softball all-star games on tap tonight

Twenty-eight players representing 16 schools will converge on Longview's Lear Park (Field 1) tonight as the Longview Parks Sports Tourism Department sponsors the first East Texas High School Softball All-Star Games.

East will meet West in a pair of seven-inning games, with the first contest scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Making up the East roster will be Longview's Anna Bellatti and Shairee Peoples, Kilgore's Mckalyn Pinter, Tatum's Morgan Dison and Kelbie Lemons, New Diana's Courtney Rogers, Kimmy Hendricks and Jessica Hampton, Marshall's Callie Williams and Lindsey Moore, Mount Pleasant's Autumn Stinson and Katelyn Joyner, Elysian Fields' Kaylee Prather and Queen City's Kaitlin Fannin.

East coaches will be Jon Storment of Longview, Pat Eitel of Hallsville, Lexi Commander of Elysian Fields and Melissa Burrows of Tatum.

The West roster will include Layla James of Pine Tree, Katie Hickey of Gladewater, Courtney Matulis, Keirsten Seahorn and Mariah Goguen of Harmony, Emily Gibson of Grand Saline, Ali Carnes and Mallory Winkler of Frankston, Maddie Wood, Brittany Johnson and Marisa Ledkins of Mineola and Haley Dixon and Meagan McCollough of Sulphur Springs.

Coaches for the West are Cara Fitzhenry of Pine Tree, David Carrillo of Sulphur Springs and Jay Terry of Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill.

NOTES: Gates will open at 5 p.m. ... Tickets will be $5 per person, but children under six and military personnel (in uniform) will be admitted free ... Hickey was the Longview News-Journal/ All-East Texas Pitcher of the Year after going 31-6 inside the circle with a 0.93 earned run average, 273 strikeouts and 38 walks in 231 innings pitched. She will play at UT Tyler ... Hickey (first team), Hampton (first team), Prather (second team), Ledkins (second team), Wood (honorable mention), Johnson (honorable mention), Matulis (honorable mention), Joyner (honorable mention), Hendricks (honorable mention) and Rogers (honorable mention) were all selected to the Texas Sports Writers Associaton All-State Softball Team.
