Lobos' Russell named to TSWA 5A All-State Team

Longview's Reid Russell, who helped key the Lobos' first trip to the playoffs since 2007, was an honorable mention selection on Friday with the release of the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 5A All-State Baseball Team. Russell was selected as a third baseman.
The team was picked by TSWA members based on nominations from media members and coaches from around the state.
A Tyler Junior College-signee, Russell hit .362 and led the Lobos with eight home runs and 36 RBIs to go along with seven doubles and 25 runs scored.
Russell was a first team selection on the ETvarsity.com/Longview News-Journal All-East Texas Baseball Team. He played in the North Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game in Grand Prairie, and was an alternate in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game played at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
The Woodlands' pitcher Ryan Burnett and Fort Bend Dulles pitcher Dakota Mills shared Class 5A Player of the Year honors. Burnett, who signed with TCU, was 14-1 on the mound with a 0.98 earned run average in leading The Woodlands to the state championship. He struck out 142 and walked 16 in 100.1 innings pitched.
Mills, who signed with West Virginia, was 14-0 with a 0.66 ERA for state finalist Dulles. Ron Eastman of The Woodlands was named coach of the year.
