Brazos Valley batters Pump Jacks, 8-1

BRYAN - League-leading Brazos Valley broke open a close game with back-to-back two-run innings, and then put things away late en route to an 8-1 Texas Collegiate League win over the East Texas Pump Jacks on Wednesday.
The Bombers, 40-12 overall and 14-8 in the second half of TCL play, bounced back from a 16-7 pounding by the Pump Jacks (24-27, 9-12) on Tuesday.
East Texas drops to 8-18 on the road this season, but the Pump Jacks will play six of their final eight regular season games at home where they are 16-9 this season. The Pump Jacks will host The Woodlands tonight and Friday and the Texas Marshals on Saturday and Sunday. All games are set for 7:05 p.m. at Driller Park in Kilgore.
The Bombers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when G.R. Hinsley launched his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot. Hinsley added an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth after the Bombers had added a run on a walk, two errors and a wild pitch, and then Brazos Valley put things away with three runs in the bottom of the eighth for an 8-0 lead.
East Texas got on the board in the top of the ninth when Mark Mathias reached on a two-base error and scored on an RBI double by Connor Huesers.
After a four-game homestand, the Pump Jacks will visit Acadiana on Aug. 6-7 before returning home to close out the regular season with home games against the Marshals.
