Add Stephan Maxey to the list of Longview football players with FBS offers.
The senior free safety said he picked up his first FBS offer from the University of Texas at San Antonio on Thursday afternoon. He already had an FCS offer from Lamar.
Maxey becomes the third Longview class of 2014 prospect and fourth prospect overall to pick up an FBS offer. Senior defensive tackle Zaycoven Henderson is verbally committed to TCU, senior receiver Dorian Leonard is committed to Texas and junior running back JaMycal Hasty already has four Big 12 offers.
Maxey is also receiving interest from TCU, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and LSU.
He said he plans on attending a UTSA football camp in Tyler on July 26. He visited Oklahoma and TCU junior days in the spring and attended a Texas Tech camp at Longview two weeks ago.
The 6-foot, 180-pounder with 4.4 speed will enter his senior season as a two-year starter in the secondary for the Lobos.
He racked up 88 tackles, six pass breakups and two forced fumbles at free safety as a sophomore, then finished with 72 tackles, four forced fumbles, three tackles for loss and two pass breakups at strong safety last season.
He moved back to free safety in spring practice and is set to replace graduated all-state performer Corey Bartley at the position in the fall. Maxey provides a physical presence against the run and has excelled in pass coverage during summer 7-on-7 competition.
