CARTHAGE - Carthage senior catcher Beaux Guilbeau made his college selection Wednesday morning with the signing of a letter-of-intent to play for LSU-Shreveport in the Bulldog Room at Carthage High School.
Guilbeau joins teammate and pitcher JayDon Day as a freshman recruit for the Pilots, a NAIA affiliate and member of the Red River Conference.
"I'm just ready to play more baseball," Guilbeau said. "JayDon is a real close friend and will be great to play with him (in college)."
Guilbeau's father said Beaux's mother Mona, who passed away earlier this year, played a large role in his decision to attend LSU-S. She expressed a desire for Guilbeau to attend a school with good academics and high morals, which the Guilbeau family believes he has done.
At the plate this season, Guilbeau has batted .337 with 23 RBIs and two home runs out of the clean-up spot for the Bulldogs. He has just one error behind the plate.
Before the season, Guilbeau participated in the 2013 Under Armour All-American Pre-Season Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. The three-day even in January featured over 350 of the top high school players in the country.
Carthage went on to place second in District 20-3A this season behind Hudson and still have business to care of this week. The Bulldogs face Silsbee tonight in the Class 3A, Region III Semifinals at Angelina College in Lufkin.
The winner of the one-game series advances to the Region III Finals against Diboll or Huffman-Hargrave for a trip to the state tournament.
