An Upshur County grand jury recently considered 23 cases and returned 17 indictments, District Attorney Billy Byrd said Wednesday.
Of the 17 indictments, eight are sealed because there has not been an arrest made. Five cases were passed for future consideration, and one case was no billed, which means there was not sufficient evidence to issue an indictment, Byrd said.
The indictments are:
Douglas Edward Gilliam, 58, of Gilmer, bail jumping and failure to appear (habitual offender);
Marcellous Valentine, 18, of Diana, aggravated robbery;
Caleb Henry Fifita, 18, of Gilmer, evading arrest/detention with vehicle;
Eric James Phillips, 23, of Diana, assault against a public servant;
Carol Ann Cato, 39, of Ore City, possession of methamphetamine;
Matthew Blaine Murchison, 24, of Gilmer, prohibited weapon;
Shannon Michele Poole, 52, of Avinger, driving while intoxicated subsequent offense; and
Morgan Andrew McCaslin, 21, of Gilmer, assault against a public servant and attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer.
