Both Pine Tree, Kilgore girls knocked out of soccer playoffs in shootouts

LINDALE - Two penalty kick shootouts were needed to decide Friday's Class 4A girls sectional playoff games at Eagle Stadium, with Whitehouse and Mabank advancing to the next round of the postseason.

Whitehouse and Pine Tree battled to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation play and two overtimes before Whitehouse came away with a 4-2 shootout win.

In the opening game, Mabank and Kilgore also battled to a draw after 100 minutes before Mabank advanced with a 3-1 shootout win.

Pine Tree ends the season with a 19-4-1 record.

In the clash between Pine Tree and Whitehouse, the Ladycats go goals from Stephanie Gonzalez, Lauren Morris, Bonnie Cotton and Suvannah Kerns-Melton.

Pine Tree's two goals were provided by Ana Solis and Kalynn Hudman.

Whitehouse moves on to face either Corsicana or Waxahachie in the next round of the playoffs.

In the opening match on Friday, Mabank missed its first two attempts in the shootout, but converted three in a row with Megan Hollyfield, Kaitlyn Baker and Madison Hollyfield finding the back of the net.

Kilgore's lone goal was scored by Liz Stegall.

Kilgore ends the year with an 11--8-1 record. Mabank moves on to face either Ferris or Red Oak in the next round.
