The Harrison County Commissioners Court gave County Clerk Patsy Cox the OK Tuesday to temporarily manage the elections office, in coordination with Human Resources Director Velma McGlothin, in the absence of an elections administrator.
The commissioners fired former elections administrator Becky Dotson on Dec. 12 after problems arose during the Nov. 4 general election in which Harrison County was the last to enter returns to the state, nearly 24 hours after the polls closed.
Pct. 3 Commissioner James Greer said the action will also ensure that the employees in the elections office have supervision.
He said, in the meantime, they'll continue to search for a new elections administrator.
