A Longview man was jailed Sunday after police say he assaulted his 7-year-old daughter.
Police responded shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday to a residence in the 300 block of Gum Street in reference to a call from a child who said their father, later identified as 46-year-old Ah Mau Tavita, was beating children in the house, according to police reports.
When police arrived, Tavita was standing in the yard being verbally aggressive, according to police reports.
The responding officer reported smelling a "strong odor" of alcohol and that Tavita told him he had hurt his daughter.
The officer entered the residence where he found eight children. According to police reports, Tavita's 7-year-old daughter was in a bedroom with a laceration to her head.
The children told the officer their father hurt the girl while he was whipping several other children in a back bedroom, according to police reports.
The officer reported finding a belt and a pillow with blood on it in the back bedroom.
Tavita was charged with injury to a child/elderly or disabled person, according to jail records.
He was being held Monday evening in the Gregg County Jail under $10,000 bond, jail records show.
