KILGORE - With the 2014 season just a little more than a week away, the 2015 roster began taking shape for the Kilgore College softball team on Friday with the signing of 10 high school seniors.
The event was held at the Devall Student Center's Devall Room on the KC campus, with eight of the 10 players on hand.
"This is the second full recruiting class in the short history of our softball program, and I'm very hapy with the quality of players who will be wearing the KC blue next year," Kilgore head coach Leslie Messina said. "With these players, joining with the returners next fall, we will build on the success we will achieve this season."
Kilgore began practicing for the 2014 season - the second in school history - on Monday and will open the season at home on Jan. 29 with a twinbill against Grayson (1 and 3 p.m.) at Stream Flo Field.
The recent signees will begin playing for Kilgore during the 2014 fall season.
The newest additions include pitcher Renee Jones from Alief Taylor, catcher Taylor Sieber of North Forney, pitcher Hayley Vavra of Spring, outfielder Kelsey Ancelot of Orangefield, infielder Alexis Torres of Galena Park, infielder Hayley McCullers of Burleson, infielder Madison Goolsby of Bryan, outfielder Leandra Lopez, outfielder Jenna Johnson of Cypress Woods and shortstop Angelica Gonzales of Dickinson.
Following the season opener on Jan. 29, Kilgore will play five games in the Galveston Tournament Jan. 31-Feb. 1, and then return home to host Temple at 1 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 5.
The Kilgore College Softball Classic is set for Feb. 7-9, and Kilgore will play four games over three days during that event.
