Several East Texas teams named to preseason baseball poll

Hallsville and Whitehouse, who collided for an East Texas showdown in the 2013 baseball playoffs, will open their respective 2014 campaigns ranked among the best in the state.
Whitehouse comes it at No. 4 and the Bobcats at No. 7 in Class 4A with the release of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association on Wednesday.
Whitehouse advanced in the Region II quarterfinals over Hallsville on its way to a state semifinal appearance.
Defending state champion Carlisle will open its repeat campaign ranked No. 7 in Class A. The Indians brought home the 2013 state crown, finishing with a 29-1 record.
Pleasant Grove comes in at No. 3 in Class 3A while Carthage is ranked No. 8.
In Class 2A, Central Heights will open No. 6.
Cy Ranch takes the top spot in Class 5A while Longview district opponent Rockwall comes in at No. 6.
Corpus Christi Moody - which eliminated Whitehouse in the state semifinals this past season - leads Class 4A and College Station takes the top spot in 3A. Sunnyvale and Douglass are tops in 2A and A, respectively.
Baseball practice throughout the area begins Friday.
