ET Softball: Kilgore College opens season with win over Vernon

KILGORE 13, VERNON 5: GALVESTON - The top five in Kilgore's batting order went a combined 11-for-17 with 10 RBIs as the Rangers notched a 13-5 win over Vernon in the Galveston Tournament.

Kilgore also dropped a 14-12 decision to the University of Houston-Victoria on Friday.

The Rangers will play three games in the tournament today, facing San Jacinto at 9 a.m., Alvin at 11 a.m. and Galveston at 3 p.m.

Against Vernon, Lexi Lopez and Mariah Goguen both went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs apiece. Lopez banged out three doubles, and Goguen added a double.

Bianca Van Vierah and Marisa Ledkins had two hits apiece, with Van Vierah driving in a run, scoring three times and swiping three bases. Ledkins doubled twice and drove in three.

Jalla Johnson doubled and drove in two runs. Stacey Pittman had one hit and three stolen bases. Hannah Tomme collected one hit, and Keke Hunter drove in a run.

Kari Courtney earned the pitching win, striking out two and walking one in six innings of work.

In the loss to Houston-Victoria, Goguen homered, singled and drove in four runs and Lakin Kerby belted a pair of solo home runs.

Sara Aguilar finished with three hits and an RBI. Johnson had two hits, Lopez homered and drove in two runs and Van Vierah doubled, drove in a run and added two stolen bases.

Courtney took the loss in relief of Kayla Calvert, who fanned 10 in seven innings of work.
