150 youth basketball teams in Longview for state tournament

The Longview Parks and Recreation Department will host 150 youth basketball teams from across Texas during the TAAF Youth Basketball State Tournament.

The teams will compete at basketball gyms throughout Longview today and Saturday.

All teams will play two pool games and then enter a single-elimination bracket to determine the state champion.

There are seven boys and girls divisions (8-under Division I, 8-under Division II, 10-under Division I, 10-under Division II, 12-under Division I, 12-under Division II and 14-under Division I), so a total of 14 state champions will be crowned.

Games will be played at Judson Middle School, Longview High School, St. Mary's Catholic School, Pine Tree Junior High, Longview Christian School, Forest Park Middle School, Trinity School of Texas, The ROC at First Baptist Church, LEAD Academy, Broughton Recreation Center, Paula Martin Jones Recreation Center, Foster Middle School and LeTourneau University.

Action begins at 7 tonight and resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday. Championship games will begin at noon Sunday.

Cities represented in the tournament include San Angelo, Grapevine, Dallas, Lancaster, Fort Worth, Texas City, Waco, The Colony, League City, Southlake, Copperas Cove, Little Elm, DeSoto, College Station, Mesquite, Greenville, Watauga, Nacogdoches, Aubrey, Galveston, Hutto, Deer Park, Lake Worth, Stephenville, Como, Cedar Hill, Arlington and Mingus.

Longview teams scheduled to compete include:

Boys 8-U Division I: Longview Texans.

Boys 10-U Division I: Longview Texans, Longview MoJoe's.

Boys 12-U Division I: Longview Lobo Select.

Boys 14-U: Longview Pack, Longview Lakers.

Girls 8-U Division I: Longview Lady Heat.

Girls 12-U Division I: Longview Pack.

Girls 14-U: Longview Pack.
