Spring Hill hosting 4A area meet today

Spring Hill's Kalen Barlow will compete in the 3,200-meter run at today's District 15/16-4A area track meet at Panther Stadium.

Spring Hill's Panther Stadium and Beckville's R.C. Beauchamp Stadium will be the host sites for area track and field meets today as athletes from around East Texas attempt to qualify for regional competition next week.


Flight one field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Panther Stadium, with the running of the 3,200 meters set for 10:30 a.m. and flight two field events set for 11:30 a.m.

Running finals are slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. with the 400-meter relay, followed by the 800-meter run, 100 and 110 hurdles, 100-meter dash, 800-meter relay, 400-meter dash, 300 hurdles, 200-meter dash, 1,600-meter run and 1,600-meter relay.

Participating teams include the host Spring Hill Panthers and Lady Panthers, along with Bullard, Carthage, Center, Chapel Hill, Gilmer, Gladewater, Henderson, Kilgore, Rusk and Tatum.

The top four finishers in each event at the area meet will advance to regional competition, set for April 28-29 at Texas A&M-Commerce.


The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with the 3,200-meter run, followed by field events at 10:15 a.m. and running finals at 1 p.m.

Competing teams include host Beckville, along with New Diana, Elysian Fields, Harleton, Jefferson, Ore City, Waskom, White Oak, Arp, Harmony, Sabine, West Rusk, Troup, Winona and Cumberland Academy.

The top four finishers in each event advance to regional competition, set for April 28-29 at Whitehouse's Wildcat Stadium.
