A Longview police officer was seriously injured Friday morning while serving a warrant in the 4300 block of Price Lane, police said.

Officer Zachary Atkinson was taken to Longview Regional Medical Center for "serious bodily injuries" that are not life-threatening, police said.

Estevan Olvera Jr., 21, of Longview has been charged with evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest search or transport, assault of a public servant and six outstanding warrants in connection with the case.

Olvera was being held Friday awaiting arraignment in the Gregg County Jail.

Police said Atkinson was serving a warrant on Olvera just before 6:30 a.m. when he began fighting and resisting arrest. Atkinson was injured in the assault, police said.
