Summer Skin Secrets: Tips To Keeping Your Summer Glow

In the summer months, the sun's rays and high temperatures take their toll on the skin. Harsh weather causes clogging of the pores, leaving it dull and feeling rough. The negative effects, however, can be eliminated with the right skincare routine. Why not let your skin shine and show off your summer glow? Follow these simple tips:

1. Use Sunscreen

Don't shy away from using sunscreen; it's not just meant for long days at the beach. Using the right amounts can make a world of difference. The equivalent of a full teaspoon should suffice for your face and neck, while the quantity you use on your body should fit in a shot glass. Don't just use last year's sunscreen though, the one you forgot at the back of the medicine cabinet. Their effectiveness is short-lived. Rather shop for a new one.

2. Practice Safe Tanning

Tanning beds and sunbathing increase your risk of developing skin cancer. Is a tan worth the exposure and taking the chance? We think not, especially since there are other ways of acquiring a healthy, sunless tan. Applying sunless tanners to your face, neck, and body will leave you looking like you just came from the beach.

3. Master The Shave

As summer temperatures make their presence felt, your legs will be thankful for a change in attire. Put all those pairs of jeans back in the closet and choose something lighter and more revealing. This means you'll have to shave more often though, so pick the right shaving lotion for your skin, along with a good razor.

4. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

Your adorable, furry cat isn't the only one in the house that's shedding. Your body is literally covered in dead skin cells, causing the skin to feel dry and rough to the touch. If you exfoliate at least twice a week, every week, your skin will regain its healthy, beautiful glow. Do so by using an exfoliator in the shower and rubbing the skin in a circular motion. Have one exfoliator for the body and another for your face and neck. When you're done, don't forget to moisturize.

5. Keep Your Body Hydrated

While drinking enough water is important both for the skin and your overall health, we're talking about using lotions now. Not any lotion is fit for the summer season. You'll want to go for something light that quickly gets absorbed into the skin. Spray moisturizers and gels are great choices.

6. Take Care of Your Feet

Summer is the right time to let your feet breathe in a nice pair of sandals. Make sure to remove all that dried, dead skin from your heels first though. While it might be a challenging task, once you make a routine out of it, it gets easier. Use both a file and a foot scrub to get the job done. Don't forget about your toes; a good pedicure is never a waste!
