A Dallas man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison in an April aggravated robbery in Upshur County that started a multicounty crime spree, according to the Upshur County District Attorney's Office.

Gerald Michaul Hiam Jr., 30, pleaded guilty this past week in the 115th District Court in Gilmer.

Officials said Hiam robbed a convenience store store on Texas 154 on April 17 then used the stolen cash to buy heroin and drive to a Dallas, where he mugged a 15-year-old high school student who was waiting to be picked up by his mother.

Two days later, Hiam stole a phone and wallet at gunpoint from a mother who was removing her child and stroller from her car in a Dallas parking lot in Dallas.

Haim was arrested Aug. 17 and held in Upshur County Jail on $100,000 bond.
