Senate youth program

Jay Williamson, son of Charlie Williamson of Rusk County and Lisa Tullis of Texarkana, has been chosen one of two Texans to join the 56th U.S. Senate Youth Program.

Established in 1962 for high school students interested in political futures, the Senate Youth Program brings two from each state for a week of policy addresses by senators, cabinet members and agency directors. They also meet the president and a Supreme Court justice.

The event is underwritten by The Hearst Foundation, and each delegate earns a $10,000 college scholarship. This year's program will be March 3-10 in Washington, D.C.
