LIBERTY-EYLAU 78, HEMPSTEAD 51: Kameron Green led three Leopards in double digits and 11 players with points as Liberty-Eylau jumped ahead early and pulled away in the second quarter for a 78-51 win over Hempstead. Green finished with 12 points, Decorian Phillips and Talveyion Cooper followed with 10 points for the Leopards, who led 19-10 after the first quarter and 45-22 at halftime. Jarric Smith led Hempstead with 12 points and Trey Gails added 10 for the Bobcats.
LUFKIN 69, HENDERSON 44: Lufkin broke open a five-point game after the first quarter and pulled away from there in a 69-44 win over Henderson. JaCourtney Calvin had 16 points and Tonnavce Agnew followed with 10 followed with 10 for the Panthers, who led 15-10 after the first quarter. Tyrek Blanton led Henderson with a game-high 21 points.
JOHN TYLER 60, PINE TREE 37: After a back-and-forth start, John Tyler used a 9-0 run in the first quarter and held off Pine Tree for a 60-37 win over the Pirates. Up 19-13 heading into the second quarter, John Tyler hit three-straight from beyond the arc to build a 19-point lead in the second. Pine Tree pulled to within 11, 40-29, early in the third quarter before a John Tyler response put the Lions ahead for good. Daecorian Jessie had 17 points in the win for John Tyler. Javion Williams followed with 15 points, six rebounds and two steals. Zion Jenkins had 11 points and Darry Moore had seven rebounds for John Tyler. JJ Sparkman led Pine Tree with 19 points and had six rebounds for the Pirates. Isaiah Lawson followed with 13 points, five rebounds and two steals. Jamille Davis had seven rebounds and two steals off the bench for the Pirates.
HALLSVILLE 80, HEMPSTEAD 52: Shadd Berg torched the nets for 33 points as Hallsville blew past Hempstead, 80-52.
Jeremy Swalley added 15 points for the Bobcats, who led 20-12 after the first quarter and 39-26 at halftime.
Jerric Smith had 16 points and Trevon Carter 10 for Hempstead.
TRIMBLE TECH 97, LIBERTY-EYLAU 76: Tariq Roberts and Kaleb Favors combined for 53 points as Trimble Tech pulled away in the second half for a 97-76 win over Liberty-Eylau.
Decorian Phillips led the Leopards with 26 points.
LUFKIN 63, PINE TREE 52: A back-and-forth first half set up a similar finish as Lufkin pulled away from Pine Tree for a 63-52 win.
Lufkin led 34-27 at halftime before the Pirates made it a two-point game throughout the third quarter. The Panthers, however, were able to keep the Pirates at arms length the rest of the way, using a 6-0 run early in the fourth quarter to pull away for good.
Isaiah Lawson led the Pirates with 16 points. JJ Sparkman and Trevor Wilson followed with 11 for Pine Tree.
JaCourtney Calvin led Lufkin with 18 points.
OTHER: Henderson 57, Longview JV 44.
SPRING HILL TOURNAMENT
MINEOLA 54, ATLANTA 49: Despite a furious fourth quarter rally, the Atlanta Rabbits came up short in their contest with the Mineola Yellow Jackets. Davion Sneed's 13 points led the Jackets to a 54-49 victory.
The Jackets held a seemingly secure 46-29 lead going into the final eight minutes of regulation. Atlanta went on a 20-8 run to make things a little more interesting.
Demontrae Collins led the Rabbits and all scorers with 17 points in the loss.
TATUM 59, PITTSBURG 46: A late fourth quarter surge enabled the Tatum Eagles to notch a 59-46 decision over the Pittsburg Pirates here Thursday morning.
Josiah Smith led the Eagles with 16 points and C.J. Vandre followed with 13 points. Tatum sank a total of eight 3-pointers in the victory.
Pitt's Jaylon Jimmerson led all scorers with 17 points.
MARSHALL 74, WINONA 36: The Marshall Mavericks placed 10 players in the scorebook as they ran roughshod over the Winona Wildcats 74-36 in second round Thursday play.
JJ Green paced the Mavs with 12 points and CC Love netted 10 points.
Ashton Smith and Dakota Pullum each registered 10 points in a losing effort for the Wildcats.
WOODLAND CHRISTIAN 66, GILMER 52: Nash Golaszewski poured in 22 points and Dawson Yates netted 21 points as Woodland Christian toppled Gilmer 66-52 in Thursday morning action.
The Warriors rallied from a 27-23 halftime deficit with a 27-point third period explosion to build a sizable lead over the Buckeyes.
Nash was lethal from outside, dropping no less than five trifectas.
The Buckeyes got 13 points from Eddie Ray and 11 points each from Red Jones and Tra Fluellen.
MOUNT VERNON 66, HOOKS 35: Vecent Rockwell's game-high 24 points were more than enough to lead the Mount Vernon Tigers to a decisive 66-35 hammering of the Hooks Hornets.
The Tigers tallied double figures in each quarter, while the Hornets were limited to singles in three of four frames.
Tyler Cooper pitched in 12 points and Josh Watters netted 11 points in the win.
CARTHAGE 54, WEST RUSK 24: This one was almost done after eight minutes as the Carthage Bulldogs rolled to a 54-24 rout of the West Rusk Raiders here Thursday morning.
Carthage's 21 first quarter points just about put this one on ice and by the break it was 30-15.
Dee Bowens had 17 points and Dewaylon Ingram followed with 13 points for the Dawgs.
Talon Winings was practically a one-man show for the Raiders with 20 of his team's 24 points.
TENAHA HOLIDAY HOOPS
BIG SANDY 85, LA POYNOR 76: TENAHA — The Big Sandy Wildcats almost saw a 13-point third period lead evaporate. But thanks to Elijah Beard's 25 points and 19 rebounds from Joshua Shipman and 16 points from Caden Minter, the Wildcats held on for a 85-76 win over La Poynor here Thursday
The Flyers erupted for a 31-spot in the final eight minutes and staged a furious rally only to come up short.
LIPAN 63, SABINE 50: TENAHA — Sparked by a 25-point fourth quarter surge, the No. 1 ranked Class A Lipan Indians rolled to a 63-50 win over the Sabine Cardinals in Thursday's second round play at Tenaha.
Will Shawn had 15 points, eight boards and five steals in the loss.
Sabine had nabbed a 64-51 against state-ranked 2A San Augustine in late Wednesday play.
The Red Birds were led in the win by Eylan Goodwyn's 21 points and 11 rebounds.
HARMONY 47, OVERTON 26: HAWKINS — The Harmony Eagles improved to 5-10 on the season with a 47-26 win over Overton in the Hawkins Classic.
Spencer Seahorn scored nine points, Camron Helpenstil eight and Trent Hart eight, including two 3-pointers, to pace the Eagles' offense.
Harmony hosts West Rusk on Tuesday.
HAWKINS 68, TYLER HEAT 50: HAWKINS — Everin Gipson's 26 points led the way for the Hawkins Hawks in their 68-50 victory over the Tyler HEAT in the Hawkins Classic.
The Hawks left little doubt with a 26-point uprising in the fourth period to cool off the HEAT.
Hawkins visits Union Hill Tuesday.
ORE CITY CLASSIC
HUGHES SPRINGS 82, CHRISTIAN HERITAGE 66: ORE CITY — Chandler King's 19 points propelled the Hughes Springs Mustangs to a 82-66 win over Longview's Christian Heritage here Thursday in the Ore City Classic.
King was joined in doubles by Tradarian Craver's 15 points and Bryce Johnston's 10 points.
The Ponies posted 20+ points in three of the four quarters and had 50 in the second half.
MARSHALL CHRISTIAN 54, ALBA-GOLDEN 33: ORE CITY — Three Marshall Christian players scored deuces as Dylan Alford led the way with 17 points in a 54-33 win over the Alba-Golden Panthers.
Dazmond Lewis added a dozen and Andrew Stokell netted 11 points in the victory.
AG was paced in defeat by Dawson Kirk's 12 points.
MARSHALL CHRISTIAN 82, HUGHES SPRINGS 69: ORE CITY — A 30-point explosion by Dazmond Lewis carried Marshall Christian to an 82-69 verdict over Hughes Springs in afternoon action at the Ore City Classic.
Lewis was just one of five MCA players in twin digits. Stephan Florence followed with 18 points, Dylan Alford 13 points, Andrew Stockell 12 points and Joseph Allen 11 points to go along with 16 rebounds.
Chandler King netted 23 points for the Ponies in a losing cause. Brennan Dowell followed with 19 points and Bryce Johnston pitched in 15 points.
Hughes Springs is at Bloomberg this afternoon at 2:30 p.m., while Marshall Christian returns to play Jan. 5 at home to Christian Heritage.
GLEN EVANS CLASSIC
TROUP 65, NEW SUMMERFIELD 44: TROUP — Grayson Driggs and Shane Thomas combined for 29 points as the Troup Tigers clawed out a 65-44 win over New Summerfield Thursday in the Glen Evans Classic.
Driggs led the way with 15 points, Thomas added 14 points and Jones Ard netted another 11 points.
Bryant Leon's 19 points for New Summerfield paced all scorers.
TROUP 63, FRANKSTON 49: TROUP — The Troup Tigers moved to 17-2 on the year with a 63-49 win over the Frankston Indians here Thursday afternoon.
Jared Jackson was red hot and finished with 31 points for the striped cats. Shane Thomas chipped in with 10 points.
Troup has Beckville today at 12:30 p.m.
UNION GROVE 40, NEW DIANA 39: DIANA — The Union Grove Lions took a slim lead to the fourth quarter and held on for dear life to notch a 40-39 heartstopper over the New Diana Eagles here Thursday afternoon.. Dalton Borden had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the win for the Lions. Cody Payton paced the Eagles with 17 points.
