Montorio Dewayne Harris, 25, was arrested Sunday night and booked into the Gregg County Jail. He was being held on $200,000 bond on a charge of murder, jail records showed.

Details about his arrest were not yet available Monday morning, and it was not yet clear if the arrest was in connection with either of two apparent homicides in Longview during the weekend.

Police said Sunday they were investigating after a man was reportedly shot that morning near Twelfth and Dean streets in Longview before his body was dumped in the 5500 block of West Loop 281.

Police have not released that man’s name.

That death came just a day after Thomas Lynn Harper Jr., 34, of Gladewater was shot to death early Saturday at a club on East Marshall Avenue after getting into an altercation, police said.

Police responded at 1:15 a.m. Saturday to J’s Place, where they found a man, later identified as Harper, lying in the grassy area of a parking lot near the club.

Police are asking anyone with information about either shooting to call Detective Terry Davis at (903) 237-1199 or Gregg County Crime Stoppers at (903) 236-7867.
