ET Basketball Roundup: Sulphur Springs downs Hallsville, more

SULPHUR SPRINGS 54, HALLSVILLE 45: HALLSVILLE — Victor Iwuakor tossed in 18 points, Bryson Lane was close behind with 17 and the Sulphur Springs Wildcats ended the regular season with a 54-45 District 16-5A win over Hallsville.

Blaine Parker led the way for Hallsville with 15 points. Brendarian Dawson added 13, Shadd Berg six, Matt Mowery four, Jeremy Swalley three and Kameron Fitzpatrick and Rowdy Smith two apiece.

Hallsville ends the season with a 21-11 record overall, 5-7 in district play.

Sulphur Springs (24-6, 10-2) will face North Forney at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Lindale to open the Class 4A playoffs.

UNION GROVE 54, HAWKINS 51: UNION GROVE — The Union Grove Lions closed out the regular season with a 54-51 win over Hawkins on Tuesday, building a six-point lead after one quarter and holding on for the victory.

Austin Owens led the way for Union Grove with 25 points, adding six rebounds, an assist and one block. Parker Thornton finished with nine points, six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block, and Brennon Daughtry had six points and four rebounds. Tanner Stanley led the way inside for the Lions with 10 rebounds.

LINDEN-KILDARE 87, DETROIT 72: DETROIT — Ja'Kevian Rose and Marcus Jones scored 27 points apiece, Cortez Peterson recorded a double-double and the Linden-Kildare Tigers closed out the regular season with an 87-72 win over Detroit.

Jones added nine rebound, six assists and seven steals, and Rose finished with five rebounds, five assists and six steals for the Tigers (19-8, 9-5). Peterson had 18 points, 18 rebounds, five blocks and two steals, Marquise Jones 11 rebounds and Ty Patterson seven points, 10 rebounds and six assists.


RIVERCREST 43, HAWKINS 38: MOUNT VERNON — Raeli Smith scored 18 points for Hawkins, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Hawks dropped a 43-38 decision to Rivercrest in a Class 2A bi-district playoff game.

Smith added five rebounds and three steals for the Lady Hawks, who also got seven points, 14 rebounds and a steal from Emily Moore, four points, six rebounds and two blocks from Jaycee Cheshire, four points, four rebounds and a steal from Madison Staruska and two points apiece from Silvia Montgomery and Destiny Chapman.

MOUNT VERNON 72, HUGHES SPRINGS 48: DAINGERFIELD — Mount Vernon built a big lead early en route to a 72-48 win over Hughes Springs in a Class 3A bi-district play game.

The Lady Tigers led 11-2 after one quarter and 29-6 at halftime.

Katelyn Roth had 11 points, Zoe Lanier six, Sakiya Simmons three and Regina Everett two for Hughes Springs.
