Longview police have identified the victim in a Wednesday night fatal shooting as 33-year-old Ricky Nelson Miles Jr. of Longview.

Miles' death is the fourth Longview homicide in 12 days, making it the deadliest stretch in the city since 2010, records show.

Police were called about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 1500 block of South 12th Street, where Miles was found lying in a vacant lot with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center, but later died, police said.

Neighbors said Thursday that shootings in the area are common and that people hang out in the field where Miles was shot.

The shooting took place next door to a known drug house where Tony Bernard Nelson was shot and killed in January 2016. And on Feb. 5, Donald Ray Kenney was shot to death at 12th and Dean streets, about two blocks from where Miles was killed.

Information on a possible suspect or motive has not been released.

Longview police are investigating the shooting as the city’s fourth homicide of the year. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Rebecca Reeves at (903) 237-1199 or Gregg County Crime Stoppers at (903) 236-7867.

Other Longview homicides this year:

Ivory Wilson, 57, was found dead Sunday in her home at the Tree House Apartments on West Avalon Avenue. Wilson had not been seen in several days, and police were called to check her welfare.

Thomas Lynn Harper Jr., 34, was shot to death Feb. 4 at J’s Place on East Marshall Avenue.

Kyron Delyn Adams, 38, of Longview was arrested in connection with Harper’s death.
