Longview police searching for a wanted man led to not only his arrest, but two other men on drug and stolen weapons charges.
Police arrested Desmond Denard Brown and Matthew Royce Jones, both 30, and 23-year-old Davardrick Davaughn Lilly – all of Longview – shortly after 3 p.m. Friday.
Brown remained Monday in the Gregg County Jail on $1.775 million bond, charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, three counts of unlawfully carrying a weapon, two counts of theft of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.
According to arrest reports, police were looking for Brown on a warrant for one of the weapons charges when they located the vehicle he was driving on South High Street. Officers stopped him, took Brown into custody and had the vehicle towed.
Brown’s passengers, Jones and Lilly, were initially released from the scene. When officers located a bottle with at least 236 grams of prescription codeine under the seat where Jones was sitting, Jones and Lilly ran and hid from officers, according to the arrest reports. After several minutes, the passengers were found hiding in the back yard of a home on Flanagan Drive.
During inventory, investigators also found three handguns inside the passenger seat cushion where Lilly was sitting, according to reports. Two of the guns were reported stolen.
Lilly remained jailed Monday on $500,000 bond, charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and two counts of theft of a firearm. Jones remained jailed on $250,000 bond on a possession of a controlled substance charge.
Gregg County Organized Drug Enforcement units contributed to the arrests.
