A Pittsburg woman was killed Saturday night in a wreck about a mile south of Gilmer, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Latonya Champion, 42, was a passenger in a vehicle driven shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday by Deshanda Green, 31, of Pittsburg, when Sgt. Jean Dark said Green hit the brakes to avoid hitting a slower-moving vehicle on U.S. 271, but she lost control of the vehicle and it rolled. After the wreck, Champion was taken to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview where she was later pronounced dead.
Dark said two girls, ages 2 and 4, also were passengers in the vehicle but that they and Green were not injured.
Dark said everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.
