Tornado warning issued for Panola, Shelby counties; thunderstorm warning still in effect

5:45 P.M. UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm warning continued for Sabine, Augustine and Shelby counties until 6:15 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect for the counties of Bowie, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Franklin, Gregg, harrison, Marion, Morris, Panola, Red River, Rusk, Smith, Titus, Upshur and Wood counties, until 7 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for Angelia, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, San Augustine and Shelby counties until 6 p.m.
As of about 5:50 p.m., SWEPCO was reporting 225 customers without power in Gregg County. That number was considerably more in Panola County, with 2,834 customers there without power.
SWEPCO was also reporting 11 customers without power in Harrison County and 669 customers in Rusk County without power.
Longview police have reported wrecks this afternoon at Hawkins Parkway and Tuttle Boulevard and South High Street and Birdsong Street.
4:26 P.M. UPDATE: A tornado warning has been issued for southern Panola County and north central Shelby County until 5 p.m.
From the NWS:
At 423 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located 7 miles southwest of Carthage, moving east at 50 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.
IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.
PREVIOUS: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for several counties in East Texas until 5 p.m.
