A White Oak church lost its steeple and part of its roof Thursday after storms blew through the area, local officials said Friday.

Gregg County emergency management coordinator Mark Moore said portions of the roof and the entire steeple of Shiloh Baptist Church north of White Oak were ripped off in a storm that passed through the area Thursday evening, spurring tornado warnings and causing power outages.

Moore said several residential structures in that area were also damaged by the storm but that no reports of injuries had been made and no people were displaced due to the damage.

Moore said the National Weather Service will be performing damage assessment checks throughout the day in Gregg, Upshur, Wood and Smith counties.
