City of Kilgore Mayor Ronnie Spradlin speaks during the State of the City address Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Meadowbrook Golf and Events Center in Kilgore.

Kilgore Mayor Ronnie Spradlin said Tuesday he is recovering after suffering a burst appendix and spending 11 days at Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center-Longview.

Spradlin, 61, said the hospital released him Monday. He said he was "trying to get my strength up" to attend a Tuesday evening meeting of the Kilgore City Council and to drop by his business, East Texas Lumber.

He said he initially was treated at Christus Good Shepherd's emergency department in Kilgore.

Spradlin has served as mayor for 7 1/2 years and previously was a City Council member for four years. He won his fourth term as mayor in May by defeating Place 3 Councilman Victor Boyd.
