A 21-year-old Missouri man was killed Friday afternoon after his construction sweeper was hit by a tractor-trailer on U.S. 259 north of Henderson, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Tyler J. Russell, of Winona, Missouri, had been driving a construction sweeper north in the right outside lane, sweeping the roadway, around 3:15 p.m. about 10 miles north of Henderson when he turned into the inside travel lane in front of the tractor-trailer, according to preliminary information released by police.

Russell was ejected from the sweeper, police said. He was taken to Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler and later died from his injuries, police said.

Russell was pronounced dead by Smith County Justice of the Peace Judge James Meredith.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as Fernando Gomez Gonzales, 34, of Gladewater.
