A Longview man was arrested Saturday after police said he almost drove into and then began verbally assaulting cyclists in the Freeze Your Fanny race.
Clay Franklin Graves, 50, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated after sheriff's deputies received complaints that he was "almost colliding or running into bicyclists in the roadway," said sheriff's office spokesman Cpl. Josh Tubb.
Cyclists who were near the 1600 block of FM 449 at the time told deputies that Graves pulled over, got out of his truck and yelled at passing race participants.
"He ended up approaching at least one of the cyclists while he was screaming and yelling," Tubb said.
He said one of the cyclists had to push Graves away.
Tubb said witnesses tried to prevent Graves from getting back into his truck but were unsuccessful.
Graves was released from jail Saturday on $1,500 bond.
