TVCC 78, KILGORE 69: ATHENS — The Kilgore College Rangers, down by three points at halftime to the seventh-ranked team in the country, came up short to the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals, 78-69 on Wednesday in Region XIV Conference action.
Chad Bowie tossed an alley-oop to Davon Newton to put KC ahead, 48-43, with 11:30 left in the game. That's when TVCC turned up the offensive heat, going on a 18-10 run, and KC just never caught up.
KC got to within seven points after Bowie drew a foul and made both free throws to make the score 73-65 with 1:06 left in the game. The Rangers had to play the foul game in the final minute and TVCC answered by making all but one free throw.
KC was led in scoring by Malachi Davidson and Bowie with 14 points each. Bowie earned a double-double by adding 11 rebounds. Daytone Jennings and Newton each scored 11 for KC.
TVCC had four players in double figures led by Wendell Mitchell with 20 points.
KC drops to 13-9 overall and 5-8 in Region XIV play. TVCC, who leads the conference, improves to 21-3 overall and 12-1 in conference play.
KC's next game is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tyler Junior College.
